Christmas Greetings from Biblical Women

Writer' Note: I received this Christmas greeting via an email last year. It is from Anita Gutschick, an actress whom performs various biblical women in one act performances. I have seen her perform at the Sinsinawa Dominicans motherhouse in Sinsinawa, WI -- just over the river from my hometown of Dubuque.

I think Anita's message is one filled with hope and joy. Thus, since this is the third week of Advent, the week we focus on the joy welling within all of us as we prepare for Christ's birth, the timing is perfect to post her reflection.

Greetings in the name of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ!

I wish you great joy as we anxiously await the birth of our Savior! It's a time of celebration with family and friends; however, it can also be a very difficult time. What can we learn from the stories of biblical women about how to handle all of the emotions of the season?

~ Are you feeling overwhelmed? Take a lesson from Martha - take a breath! It's okay if you don't send out Christmas cards or the kitchen floor isn't clean.

~ Feeling empty or barren? Elizabeth would tell you that Jesus is there to fill up your emptiness and lighten your burden - cry out to Him.

~ Grieving the loss of a loved one? Lot's wife teaches us to look at the past with joy and gratitude, and look with hope toward the future.

~ Feeling unimportant or invisible? Leah reminds us that we are not invisible to God. In fact, he loves us so much he sent His own Son.

~ Facing a tempting situation? Joseph's solution when he was tempted by Potiphar's wife was to say no and then run from her continued pressure. God rewarded him for his steadfastness.

~ Scared about these difficult financial times? Sarah reminds us that God will provide. Nothing is impossible with God.
